The European Animal Activist Party (E.A.A.P), is an independent and autonomous political movement operating since 2006. Founded in Rome, the E.A.A.P., inspired by the values of legality, democracy, equality and solidarity, aims at fostering the debate and disseminating topics related to the animal world, in its relationship with local, national and international Institutions. Daily reports confirm that the number of vicious acts against animals is increasing: abuses, exploitation, unnecessary killings; while nobody has ever served the appropriate sentence for such atrocious acts. Most of the responsibilities lies with Local Administrators’ negligence or ill intents: they are responsible for not enforcing existing laws and not monitoring that laws are complied with. On the other hand, politicians’ scarce interest makes them unable to fill those legislative vacuums leading to lack of legal protection for animals. The political class is unreasonably far from the reality, it constantly exploits this matter, while continuously passing the buck with sterile and vile arguments; while there have been some praiseworthy actions of single governing party MPs particularly sensitive to the subject, the Government is clearly against animals. Examples are: the extension of the hunting season, the approval of the review of the European Directive 86/609/EEC in favour of vivisection, intensive breeding causing alarming pandemics, speculation on kennels were dogs are kept in outrageous conditions, the substantial funds given by the FUS (Unique Fund for Entertainment) to the Circus activities (just as an example, the Circus of Moira Orfei receives €300,000 of public funds per year) and so on. In addition, we are seeing how large animal activist associations are failing. Despite their significant efforts, not being part of the Parliament makes them powerless and unable to have an impact on the political class misguided by pharmaceutical and weapon industries and meat dealers; Otherwise, they too speculate on animals for profit: it is proven that such organisations spend over 40% of their substantial income to cover managers’ “administrative costs”, exploiting voluntary work and good will of those who offer their support for free. Only an animal activist political movement, represented by true animals’ lovers, sensitive and vegetarians, can participate to the political process with the possibility to place animals’ legal protection on top of the political and social agenda, convincing other parties to support animals’ rights. In order to reach this goal, the association aims at running for elections and referendums – also joining other political, social and cultural forces showing interest for the subject – with its symbol representing its candidates lists. The EUROPEAN ANIMAL ACTIVIST PARTY is committed to raise the constituency awareness from and ideological and political perspective, selecting the candidates for the administrative and political elections, forming those elected within the frame of the movement discipline, in order to guarantee constant monitoring in the interest of our dear animal friends.
